“We’re basically PETA — with suits and deodorant.”
A non-profit watchdog group blasted the Humane Society of the United States in an ad that aired just minutes before kickoff of the Super Bowl Sunday.

We’ve all seen those TV ads the Humane Society runs, asking for monthly donations while tugging at the heartstrings by depicting sad, sickly and abused animals in shelters needing a home.
It’s all a scam, according to HumaneWatch.org, which says that only one percent of donations go to pet shelters — the rest goes to lawyers and lobbyists.
“Every day thousands of lawyers and lobbyists around the country find themselves out of work and unemployed,” a woman tells the viewer while lawyers are depicted in cages.

“These lawyers don’t have a vacation home,” she continues. “For just $19 a month you can join the Humane Society of the United States in our fight to hire more lawyers.”
Then comes the rude awakening to those who’ve considered donating to the Humane Society of the United States.
“People often think we run pet shelters but that simply isn’t true. We don’t run a single one,” she says. “We’re basically PETA — with suits and deodorant.”
HumaneWatch.org advises people to donate to their local humane society shelters — not the national organization.
