Pulling back the curtain on the left-wing group that helped organize the UC Berkeley protest this week reveals an eyebrow-raising collection of donors.
Tucson-based Alliance for Global Justice was listed as a financial sponsor and organizer for Refuse Fascism, the communist group that rallied left-wing demonstrators to shut down a speech at the University of California, Berkeley by Breitbart editor Milo Yiannopoulos, according to The Daily Caller.

The group is reportedly backed by a progressive charity which is funded by George Soros, the city of Tucson, as well as a major labor union and a number of large companies.

As protests turned violent at Berkeley, with destruction of property and assaults on people, Refuse Fascism praised the successful shutting-down of the event on its website.
“This was righteous and much more like this is needed,” the site declared.

The group accused Yiannopoulos of being “a fascist operative with connections to the highest echelons of the Trump-Pence fascist regime,” and called on protests “to continue on an unprecedented scale to OUST this regime from power.”
While Berkeley professor Robert Reich suggested the riots were actually part of a right-wing plot, President Donald Trump asserted in a tweet on Friday that protesters at the UC Berkeley event were paid to riot.

And though it has not been verified that any of the agitators were paid to protest, funding sources for Alliance for Global Justice and Refuse Fascism are available online.
The Daily Caller reported:
According to its most recent 990 tax form, Alliance for Global Justice (AfGJ) received $2.2 million in funding for the fiscal year ending in March 2016.
One of the group’s biggest donors is the Tides Foundation, a non-profit funded by billionaire progressive philanthropist George Soros. Tides gave AfGJ $50,000.
Other notable donors include the city of Tucson and the United Steel Workers labor union. The former gave $10,000 to AfGJ while the latter contributed $5,000.
Charities associated with several major corporations also donated. Patagonia.org, the outdoor apparel and equipment company, gave $40,000. The Ben & Jerry Foundation, the charity associated with the ice cream maker, gave $20,000. And Lush Cosmetic gave $43,950.
Ironically, a $5,000 donation came from the Peace Development Fund, which backs organizations that support human rights and social justice.
Well, well, the old nazi #Soros himself is behind violent terrorists that attacked innocent Americans at Berkeley https://t.co/x11ISvAHb9

“I wasn’t aware that Refuse Fascism was involved, but probably they were one of a whole lot of groups calling to shut down Milo Yiannopoulos’ hate speech,” national co-ordinator for AfGJ, Chuck Kaufman, told the Daily Caller.

“AfGJ acts as fiscal sponsor for Refuse Fascism which means we process tax-deductible donations for them,” he said. “As long as their use of the money falls into areas permitted for tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organizations, we don’t involve ourselves one way or the other in their program work.”
