It’s no wonder Americans don’t trust the media.
CNN’s Jim Sciutto did not help his fellow reporters when he tweeted about President Donald Trump’s executive action on U.S. refugee policy.
There is no basis to the claim Muslim refugees were prioritized over Christians. Fact is, refugee policy not based in religion, until now.
— Jim Sciutto (@jimsciutto) January 28, 2017
Sciutto announced that Trump’s addition of religion to the policy radically changed it.
He was quickly fact-checked by writer and attorney Gabriel Malor.
This is simply false, as Judge Manion of the 7th Cir. noted when it came up in litigation. Obama admin provided no explanation. https://t.co/bAEJ8bB5xv

Also, the idea that “refugee policy not based in religion” is also false. Religion is one of the five protected grounds. https://t.co/bAEJ8bB5xv

Malor went on to school Sciutto and others who needed a history lesson.
I cannot emphasize how idiotic this tweet was. Refugee law is based on race, religion, national origin, political opinion, and PSG. https://t.co/bAEJ8bB5xv

That’s it. Religion is one of the very narrow grounds for which you can be a refugee to the United States (and most other countries).
— Gabriel Malor (@gabrielmalor) January 28, 2017
For @jimsciutto to declare that refugee policy was not about religion before now is to completely ignore history and law.
— Gabriel Malor (@gabrielmalor) January 28, 2017
True story. The reason American refugee law is based on religion and nationality is because …. you guessed it. The Holocaust.
— Gabriel Malor (@gabrielmalor) January 28, 2017
@passantino People, apparently including Obama, don’t know that refugee status is only available on account of five grounds. pic.twitter.com/oX2X864Gcj

He even gave journalists some advice for future reports.
You get these fucking reporters who have never learned a thing in their lives opining on everything. Gah.
— Gabriel Malor (@gabrielmalor) January 28, 2017
But I’ll give journos a shortcut. Every time you’re tempted to write “This has never happened before!” you should find an expert.
— Gabriel Malor (@gabrielmalor) January 28, 2017
Because, by God, most of this shit has happened over and over and over. Trump is not new.
