Jake Tapper taken to the woodshed for selectively editing Steve Bannon’s ‘outrageous’ media quote

It wasn’t nearly as outrageous as the mainsteam media would have their followers believe.

CNN’s Jake Tapper had a one-word response to a President Donald Trump senior aide’s statement that the media should “keep its mouth shut.”

That word was “no,” but many charge it only worked because Tapper reported only part of the quote when he delived his one word answer.

Steve Bannon, Trump’s chief strategist, told The New York Times during an interview that reporting the news is only half of the media’s obligation — they should also listen.

“The media should be embarrassed and humiliated and keep its mouth shut and just listen for a while,” Bannon said.

“I want you to quote this,” he added. “The media here is the opposition party. They don’t understand this country. They still do not understand why Donald Trump is the president of the United States.”

Tapper went on the air and fired back at Bannon’s remarks.

“The president’s top aide just told The New York Times that the press ‘should keep its mouth shut,’” Tapper told his viewers. Then he smugly added with a laugh, “no.”

That remark earned Tapper kudos for its pithy brilliance, but others saw right through his “fake news.” The CNN anchor left out that part of Bannon’s statement that put the “shut up” remark in proper context.

Others picked up on it and gave Tapper a helping hand — after all, reporting the news — the whole news — is hard.

Relations between the cable news giant and the Trump administration crumbled when it “reported” on an unverified dossier that was unflattering to the president. Tapper tried — but failed — to distance CNN from the report.

Finally one tweep observed that it’s “all in the game” given the cozy relationship between media outlets and government — especially the former Obama administration.

CNN likes to call itself “the most trusted name in news,” but that slogan only works when it reports the whole news.
