President Obama may have felt the love for Chelsea Manning, but he’s not getting it in return.
After Obama commuted Manning’s sentence for Espionage Act violations by nearly 30 years, she turned around and bit the hand that supported her with an honest appraisal that the former president was a weak leader “with few permanent accomplishments” to his name.
“The one simple lesson to draw from President Obama’s legacy: do not start off with a compromise,” Manning wrote in The Guardian.
“They won’t meet you in the middle,” she continued. “Instead, what we need is an unapologetic progressive leader.” Although certainly progressive, she felt that Obama was not that person.

Manning also described the day Obama was inaugurated into his first term in office, when she still went by the name Bradley Manning. She was watching the ceremony with senior staff members at New York’s Fort Drum.
“The seething vitriol and hatred simmered quietly in that room. In retrospect, it was an ominous foreshadowing of things to come,” she wrote.
Four years later Manning was locked up and awaiting court martial for divulging reams of government secrets to WikiLeaks. Both the mood and those he shared that event with were totally different.
“Surrounded by a different crowd of people, the excitement and elation of his re-election was genuine,” she wrote.
Obama commuted Manning’s sentence three days before President Donald Trump’s inauguration, and is scheduled for release on May 17 of this year.
Manning also claimed Obama beat around the bush in his attempt to compromise his position on the fatal shooting of dozens of people at Orlando’s Pulse nightclub, which caters to the the Florida city’s gay community.
“In the aftermath of the deadly shooting at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando that took the lives of nearly 50 queer and brown people, it took Obama over 300 words of his speech to acknowledge the queer community, and even then, as an abstract acronym,” she added.

Manning’s criticism of Obama didn’t escape the notice of President Donald Trump.
Ungrateful TRAITOR Chelsea Manning, who should never have been released from prison, is now calling President Obama a weak leader. Terrible!

No one seemed particularly surprised — it’s just another example of Manning being a turncoat.

So that’s what they mean by “biting the hand that feeds you”. Bradley/Chelsea Manning thinks Obama was a weak leader. Correct …but still.

Although Trump has the power to reverse Obama’s executive orders, he cannot reverse his predecessor’s pardons and commutations.
