Actress Debra Messing may have thought she was “helping” immigrants and Muslims with her recent tweet of support but instead she won the award for self-absorption and empty gestures.
Messing jumped to her Twitter feed on January 25 to tweet out her “solidarity selfie” saying, “#SolidaritySelfie I join the Virtual March in solidarity with Muslims and Immigrants. #NoBanNoWall.”

The gesture was so empty of any actual effort that it caused thousands of Twitter users to rip her apart over the arrogance of hiding in her expensive car, doing mostly nothing to really help, and then tweeting like she is a hero. By the left’s own reckoning, Messing’s tweet was white privilege at its worst.
Actors Nick Searcy and Adam Baldwin also sarcastically tweeted their “support” for Messing’s absurdity.
I’m doing the Virtual March because @exjon & @DebraMessing are! (Hey, what’s it about, and why are we sitting in cars?) #solidarityselfie pic.twitter.com/obj0mEPVJe

And many, many more just totally slammed Messing for her vapid tweet…

Hey, @DebraMessing. Are there many Will and Grace reruns airing in Shariah governed countries? Asking for a friend. https://t.co/3xbNeVQz7X

You took 3 seconds to promote yourself with a selfie. Your activism is truly inspiring. @DebraMessing

@DebraMessing you’re such a brave soul. How do you find the courage to take your own picture?

This is hardly the first time Debra Messing made some national issue all about herself. During the inauguration of Donald J. Trump as our 45th President, Messing posted a video on Twitter that made the inauguration into a platform to grandstand about how much she reveres the Constitution. But apparently deleted the whole thing, likely from embarrassment.
