Giuliani to head new cybersecurity group for Trump admin, will rely on private sector to get the job done

Rudy Giuliani will be stepping into the cybersecurity arena to help President-elect Donald Trump deal with the issue.

“The president-elect decided that he wanted to bring in, on a regular basis, the people in the private sector, corporate leaders in particular and thought leaders,  in the private sector who are working on security for cyber because we’re so far behind,” the former New York City Mayor said on “Fox & Friends” on Thursday.

“The idea here is to bring together corporate leaders and their technological people,” Giuliani said. “The president will meet with them on an ongoing basis, as well as anybody else in the administration.”

Giuliani, who also served as U.S. attorney under President Ronald Reagan, owns a private sector security consulting business.

“I’ll coordinate the whole thing. I’ll get the people in, make sure the meeting takes place, make sure they get the information from the private sector,” he said.

Giuliani explained that the effort will give the government access to information available in the private sector and will also create a community for the security experts.

“The answer to cybersecurity is going to be found in the private sector,” he said.

The Trump transition team released a statement Thursday announcing that Giuliani would “lend expertise” on the cybersecurity issue.

“As the use of modern communications and technology has moved forward at unparalleled speed the necessary defenses have lagged behind. The President-elect recognizes that this needs immediate attention and input from private sector leaders to help the government plan to make us more secure,” the statement read.

“Mr. Giuliani was asked to initiate this process because of his long and very successful government career in law enforcement and his now sixteen years of work providing security solutions in the private sector,” it read.
