Furious Michigan man headed to court after parked car is slapped with a ticket – in his driveway!

Doing what nearly everyone he knows does on these cold winter days, a Michigan man was shocked when he discovered that police had given him a parking ticket for warming up his car in the driveway of his own home.

Nick Taylor of Roseville, Michigan, was so irked over the citation that he posted a photo of his ticket on Facebook. His post quickly went viral and became national news.

According to the ticket, Taylor was ticketed for leaving his car running and with the keys in the ignition when no one was around. Something he never even knew was against the law.

“I’ve never heard of any city ordinance or law like that,” Taylor told the media, according to Fox News.

On his Facebook posting Taylor sarcastically wrote, “Let’s all take a moment to thank officer dips**t K. Keary for wasting the taxpayer’s money and giving me a ticket for warming up my car in my own damn driveway.”

But police are not backing down from having issued the ticket and insist that the law is about public safety.

“This is purely a public safety issue. You can’t do it. You see it all the time, people hop in a running car and Steal them. Something bad happens when that occurs,” Chief James Berlin claimed.

Fox News, though, discovered that there is no law in Michigan that prohibits car owners from warming up their autos in their own driveways. In addition, the ticket cites an ordinance number 99006 but Fox could find no such ordinance in either state or local laws.

Regardless, Nick Taylor will appear in District Court on January 26.
