Director Lee Daniels has a message for proponents of the #OscarsSoWhite hashtag: Stop whining and do the work!
The Oscar-winning director of “Precious,” “Monster’s Ball,” and “The Butler,” says African-Americans who complain about the Academy Awards being “too white” are a bunch of entitled crybabies who need to grow the hell up.
“These whiny people that think we’re owed something are incomprehensible and reprehensible to me,” Daniels told the NY Times.
Go out and do the work! ‘Oscars so white’? So what! Do your work. Let your legacy speak and stop complaining, man! Are we really in this for the awards?

Daniels was responding to the controversy started by April Reign, an activist who launched the #OscarsSoWhite hashtag in 2015 in response to the lack of diversity among the Academy Award nominees that year.
Lee Daniels (who’s besties with billionaire Oprah Winfrey) said he has soared in the super-competitive entertainment industry because he was never weighed down by a gigantic chip on his shoulder.
“If I had thought that way — that the world was against me — I wouldn’t be here now,” he said. “I don’t expect acknowledgment or acceptance from white America. I’m going to be me.”

Daniels joins a growing chorus of successful African-Americans like neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson and Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke, who say it’s time to move past victimhood to victory.
Sheriff Clarke said leftist crybabies like President Obama have only deepened the racial divide by encouraging African-Americans and other minorities to blame whites or institutions for their lots in life. It’s time to turn that page, says Clarke.
“This guy has continually, continually, for eight years … rubbed white peoples’ nose in the stain of slavery,” Clarke said. “He’s about 150 years removed from slavery. Nobody said forget about it, but you have to be able to move on at some point.”
