Actor Denzel Washington thinks it’s time the media lives up to its responsibility and quits selling “BS’ to the public.

“If you don’t read the newspaper, you’re uninformed. If you do read it, you’re misinformed,” the 61-year-old Academy Award-winner said Tuesday, according to The Hill.

The media’s “need to be first, not even to be true anymore” has been the result of “too much information,” Washington lectured reporters gathered at the National Museum of African-American History and Culture for the premiere of his upcoming film “Fences.”

“So what a responsibility you all have — to tell the truth,” he said.
“In our society, now it’s just first — who cares, get it out there. We don’t care who it hurts. We don’t care who we destroy. We don’t care if it’s true,” Washington continued.

The actor himself was part of a false news story earlier this year that claimed he had switched from being a Hillary Clinton supporter to backing Donald Trump. Though it was not true, the story spread as news.
“Just say it, sell it. Anything you practice you’ll get good at — including BS,” he said Wednesday.
Washington directed and stars in “Fences,” a film about a black family in 1950s Pittsburgh. It is set to open in theaters on Christmas Day.
Some social media users praised the actor for speaking up while others suggested Hollywood liberals stick to entertaining instead of lecturing.

@thehill Well said, Mr. Washington.

@thehill good for him as the media is largely a pulpit for political bias endorsed in the name of journalism; it is a true propaganda

@FoxNews @FoxNewsInsider Denzel is absolutely correct. But must admit…disappointed he was for Hillary.

@FoxNews @FoxNewsInsider Totally true, but wonder if he wld be speaking up if they hadn’t falsely mentioned that he endorsed Trump? Hm.

@TrumpSuperPAC ..Hollywood only understands the crooked media when it impacts them personally ..otherwise they’re happily working with them.

@Bahamajoe0 @The_dead222 I agree with Denzel. The rush to be “first” without searching for the truth got us Barack Obama, after all.

@thehill Who cares what Celebs say? It didn’t help Hillary all those celebrity endorsers
— Nostradanus (@realdealdanny) December 7, 2016
@thehill Why do celebrities think anyone gives a rats ass about their opinions? Just sing and dance for me.

@FoxNews Amazing to hear a Liberal actor say that…
