Mainstream media are up in arms about “fake news” proliferating online, but this only became a crisis after Donald Trump was elected.
That’s what Bill McMorris of the Washington Free Beacon says about the media outrage over “fake news.”
McMorris said there are obvious instances of fake news and hoaxes, but the “fake news” drumbeat only became a thing after Trump was elected as a way to discredit conservative viewpoints.
“Fake news is whatever people living in the liberal bubble determine to be believed by the right,” McMorris told Tucker Carlson.
As a journalist, McMorris is all for accurate reporting, but he’s disgusted that mainstream media is sounding the “fake news” alarm as a way to maintain their status as so-called legitimate news sources while trying to discredit or censor conservative news outlets.

It’s ironic that the media outlets making the biggest stink about “fake news” proliferation are the ones that repeatedly bleated some of the biggest fake news hoaxes in recent years.
For example, a CNN panel repeatedly pushed the “Hands up, don’t shoot” LIE concerning the shooting of Michael Brown.
Similarly, the New York Times, the Washington Post, CNN and the Huffington Post repeated the lie for months that Donald Trump had no chance to win the election.
They cited bogus polls and skewed data to support their fake news narrative.

As a result of all this fake news reporting by mainstream media, 94% of the public now say they do not trust the media.
