Clinton campaign: We are joining in the 3-state recount effort

Hillary Clinton is now joining the effort to have votes recounted in some key states.

The Clinton campaign will be pushing for a recount, joining Green Party candidate Jill Stein who has already raised millions of dollars for recounts in battleground states like Wisconsin.

“Over the last few days, officials in the Clinton campaign have received hundreds of messages, emails, and calls urging us to do something, anything, to investigate claims that the election results were hacked and altered in a way to disadvantage Secretary Clinton,” Marc Elias, the campaign’s counsel, said in a post on Medium.

Though the campaign had not discovered any evidence of hacking of voting systems, Elias said the decision was made to “ensure that it is fair to all sides.”

“Because we had not uncovered any actionable evidence of hacking or outside attempts to alter the voting technology, we had not planned to exercise this option ourselves, but now that a recount has been initiated in Wisconsin, we intend to participate in order to ensure the process proceeds in a manner that is fair to all sides,” Elias said.

“If Jill Stein follows through as she has promised and pursues recounts in Pennsylvania and Michigan, we will take the same approach in those states as well,” he added.

Obama pushed Clinton to concede election, source says: ‘If anybody knew what actually happened that night . . .’

The campaign had “quietly taken a number of steps” to investigate accusations of hacked voting results, investigating every theory, and having “lawyers and data scientists and analysts combing over the results” to assess abnormalities.

Elias also noted “the degree of foreign interference witnessed throughout the campaign,” adding that “the U.S. government concluded that Russian state actors were behind the hacks of the Democratic National Committee and the personal email accounts of Hillary for America campaign officials.”

He called it “unfortunate” that all states don’t conduct “post-election” audits and said the campaign would “continue to perform our due diligence and actively follow all further activities that are to occur prior to the certification of any election results.”

It seems like a very determined effort from the candidate who blasted Donald Trump not that long ago for refusing to confirm whether he would accept the election outcome.
