If big media wants to stop ‘fake news’ it needs to start in its own newsrooms

The latest attack on conservatives is to call anything they post “fake news” and to seek to shut down their freedom of speech over the false claim. But if the liberal media wants to stop “fake news” they need to look inside their own newsrooms first.

As Mediaite’s Jordan Chariton properly notes, the problem with the crusade against “fake news” is the old media establishment, which fancies itself “the messenger,” is the one deigning to tell us what is fake all the while pushing their own version of fake news.

Chariton insists, “the elites in our media should be looking themselves in the mirror morning, noon, and night, perhaps more than any other institution in the U.S.”

Indeed, even as Chariton was sitting down to castigate the old media complex, a perfect example of their lies was playing out on NBC.

Over the weekend NBC published a shocking story with a headline screaming, “Reince Priebus on Muslim Registry: ‘Not Going to Rule Out Anything.'”

If one were to read that headline and not look into what Reince Priebus actually said, one would assume that he just said that the incoming Donald Trump administration intends to create a list of all Muslims in America.

Harry Reid’s rule change comes back to bite Dems; another bitter pill

But that is not what he said at all.

The story came from NBC’s “Meet The Press” when host Chuck Toddwho started his career as a Democrat operative — asked new White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus about creating such a registry.

During the segment, Todd asked Priebus, “can you equivocally rule out a registry for Muslims.”

“Look I’m not going to rule out anything,” Priebus began, “but we’re not going to have a registry based on a religion.” (my bold) “But what I think what we’re trying to do is say that there are some people, certainly not all people Chuck, there are some people that are radicalized. And there are some people that have to be prevented from coming into this country.”

Notice that NBC’s headline cut out the part where Priebus said no religious registry will be created.

NBC wasn’t alone pushing it’s fake news line. Time magazine ran with a similar misleading headline and so did the New York Daily News.

Not everyone ran with the partial headline. Yahoo News, for one, ran its story with the headline properly reading, “Reince Priebus: ‘We’re not going to have a registry based on a religion’”

In any case, if the old media cabal wants to root out “fake news” it might behoove them to start by cleaning up their own houses first.
