They’ve already given so much.
But, as physically gifted athletes were choosing to kneel or sit for the national anthem, a wheelchair bound teenager gave Americans a reason to smile when he stood for our flag in October.
Weeks later, a veteran run company has given that young man, Arek Trenholm, a reason to smile.
Trenholm, who has spina bifida, was given the gift of a standing wheelchair from Michigan’s The Standing Company after veteran Scott Liesch, an employee of the company, showed the 16-year-old’s picture to his bosses, Fox 35 reported.
“All of us at The Standing Company are thrilled to help Arek and we genuinely thank him for taking a stand regarding his beliefs,” company founder and president David Maczik said. “Arek, I am certain, has a fine future in front of him.”
Liesch, a paraplegic, met with Trenholm on Thursday and taught him how to use his new chair.
“I’m going to be right alongside you to help you along,” Liesch told Trenholm. “You just joined the ranks of the standing.”
“It was very impressive the fact that Arek wants to honor the flag in the best way he could at the time just by standing up,” he said.
