It was a coming attraction of what was to happen later that night.
Mere hours before the presidential debate Sunday night, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump held an unscheduled press conference in St. Louis, Missouri with four women who were all alleged victims of Bill and Hillary Clinton.
The women included Paula Jones, Juanita Broaddrick and Kathleen Willey — who have accused former President Bill Clinton of rape and unwanted sexual advances.
“Actions speak louder than words,” Broaddrick said. “Mr. Trump may have said some bad words but Bill Clinton raped me and Hillary Clinton threatened me. I don’t think there’s any comparison.”
The fourth woman — Kathy Shelton — was beaten and sexually assaulted at age 12, and Hillary Clinton represented Shelton’s attacker as a public defender.
“Hillary put me through something that you would never put a 12-year-old through,” Shelton said. “And she says she’s for women and children.”
Fox News Channel’s Carl Cameron told FNC host Brit Hume that he considered the press conference to be a predictor of what was to come on the debate stage later that evening.
“It appears pretty obvious,” he said on Fox News Channel’s “On the Record,” and went on to predict that Trump may have those same four women in the audience during the debate.
Both predictions proved accurate.
