QB Cam Newton’s provocative pre-game attire is another blow to the joys of football

Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton joined the Black Lives Matter, on-field protests against police by wearing a T-Shirt emblazoned with a quote from Martin Luther King, Jr., during Sunday’s pregame warmup.

Newton, the league’s current Most Valuable Player, appeared on the filed in a shirt featuring the King quote, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere,” Reuters wire service reported.

This isn’t the first time the quarterback has waded into the controversial argument that cops are racist and responsible for killing blacks. Several days before the September 25 game Newton made a statement about the rioting in Charlotte.

“I’m a firm a believer of justice. I’m a firm believer of doing the right thing,” Newton told the media.

“And I can’t repeat it enough of just holding people accountable … I am not happy with what or how the justice has been kind of dealt with over the years,” he added.

“The police brutality … it’s embarrassing to even talk about. When you sit up here and list the names, it’s crazy to even think about how did this even happen and how do police who take a leave absence and still get paid.”

As per league rules, Newton removed the activist shirt and donned his regulation uniform before the game began.

Newton took no further activist actions on Sunday and did not join Panthers backup safety Marcus Ball, who during the playing of the national anthem stood with his right arm in the air and his index finger pointed upward.

Many police officers are starting to push back against this idea that they are all racists ready to kill black civilians at the drop of a hat. In fact, one African-American police officer is now suing Obama, his Department of Justice, and Al Sharpton for stirring race riots against police.

Fortunately, everyone doesn’t hate the police. After Sunday’s game the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police were gratified when hundreds of Panthers fans exited the stadium and thanked officers for being there to protect them as they enjoyed the game.
