Princeton professor demonstrates how easy it is to rig an election – with a few minutes and a screwdriver

A Princeton University professor demonstrated for Fox News just how easy it is for someone to hack into a modern electronic voting machine, despite federal officials swearing up and down that it can’t be done.

Stuffing the ballot box is old school, as professor Andrew Appel demonstrated — and it can be done in minutes.

Appel first made the public aware of just how easy it could be in 2008 — by simply exchanging one $4 computer chip for another — yet nothing has changed.

Voting experts, however, claim there are way too many safeguards currently in use to make vote-tampering in this manner likely.

Nonetheless, Appel suggests one more safeguard — paper ballots to back up whatever the machine says.

“The people who cast the votes don’t decide an election,” the late Soviet leader Joseph Stalin once said. “The people who count the votes do.”

And it doesn’t matter if it’s a person or a machine doing the counting.
