Donald Trump Jr. made a point on social media to support his father’s call for a temporary ban of all Muslim immigration until we can better vet the immigrants. But it went “whoosh!” — right over the heads of lesser, more liberal minds.
He used a bowl of Skittles as an analogy to state his case.

Many of his detractors pointed out that people aren’t Skittles. What is there about analogy that they don’t understand? Here’s an example from singer John Legend.
Oh and human beings fleeing oppression and terror aren’t skittles. https://t.co/wXK24wvurK

Denise Young, vice president of Corporate Affairs for Wrigley, which owns Skittles, made much the same point.
“Skittles are candy. Refugees are people. We don’t feel it’s an appropriate analogy,” she said in a statement, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “We will respectfully refrain from further commentary as anything we say could be misinterpreted as marketing.”
Just as Young apparently doesn’t understand the concept of “analogy” — much like this person:
@DonaldJTrumpJr are you proposing we eat refugees?
— PAQ Daddy (@paqdaddy107) September 19, 2016
And the naysayers often used photos of children to denounce Trump’s reasoning.
@DonaldJTrumpJr This is the equivalent of a red Skittle in your analogy. pic.twitter.com/NKvD5V07tE

@DonaldJTrumpJr You pompous, privileged a**hole … you, your father & your alleged “christian” bigots are a deplorable disgrace. pic.twitter.com/Sfbsvyo7qN

And of course Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton got into the act — via her press secretary, Nick Merrill.
This is disgusting. https://t.co/Qygl03Cnc1
— Nick Merrill (@NickMerrill) September 20, 2016
He didn’t say whether “disgusting” is a step up or a step down from, “deplorable,” however.
But clearer minds saw through the hype and pointed out the obvious:
@YS @DonaldJTrumpJr Euro Security council say thousands of ISIS agents have came under guise of refugee. Facts dont care about ur feelings.
— Deplorable Joshua (@KGBJoshua) September 20, 2016
Absolutely correct @DonaldJTrumpJr
Only fools would let in thousands of un-vetted immigrants
CLOSE THE DAMN BORDER !!
Americans FIRST
— JimNichols #2A 3% (@jimcc66) September 20, 2016
@ChrisCJackson @DonaldJTrumpJr Why is it our responsibility to help them when there are plenty of countries near them with space and money?
— Mrs. Michael Westen (@Bayonethics) September 20, 2016
Just as those countries — including the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia — speak the same language and overwhelmingly practice the same religion, making assimilation for the immigrants a snap.
When Mrs. Michael Western’s observation was criticized, she came right back with a reply aimed squarely at Democrats — including that “great humanitarian,” former President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
@ChrisCJackson @DonaldJTrumpJr They did. Or are you forgetting how the Dems sent Japanese Americans to camps in the middle of nowhere?

Pow!
