Donald Trump: It's time for Congress to get rid of weak senators

Republican nominee Donald Trump reignited a personal feud with Republican Senator Jeff Flake of Arizona Sunday, following the Senator’s comments on Trump’s chances in Arizona.

Flake started the dialogue Sunday morning on CBS’ “Face The Nation,” where the Republican Senator voiced his concerns about the state of Arizona going to Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton.

“It shouldn’t be up for grabs—Mitt Romney won it by I think eight points—but frankly it is,” he said. “And I think that they’re spending money because they have some indication that she might be in play. And unfortunately I think that’s the case.”

Flake also criticized Trump’s recent position evolution regarding the proposed wall on the southern border. “The speech in Mexico and that action, I think all of us had some hope after that that he might be changing the tone and tenor of his campaign,” Flake said. “But then when the speech was delivered in Arizona later that day, he seemed to be right back where he has been.”

Flake continued his refusal to endorse Trump, “It becomes increasingly difficult to see that he’s going to change, so I don’t expect that I’ll be able to support him in November,” Flake told CBS “I’d like to, he’s the Republican nominee, I just don’t see how I can.”

Trump responded via Twitter within hours.

The Republican Party needs strong and committed leaders, not weak people such as @JeffFlake, if it is going to stop illegal immigration.

This isn’t the first time Trump and Flake exchanged words. At Trump’s trip to the National Republican Capitol Hill Club in July, Flake introduced himself as “the other senator from Arizona – the one who didn’t get captured.”

Later in the event, Trump said that he didn’t know who Flake was, but threatened to attack the senator, and work against his reelection campaign. Flake reminded the Republican nominee that Flake wasn’t up for reelection until 2018.

Senator Flake has a dismal rating from Conservative Review, and has a very low 27 percent approval rating as of May.
