Things just got worse for former Congressman Anthony Weiner.
After allegedly sending a sexually provocative picture of himself in his underwear while his child lay beside him on a bed, child protective services stepped in, the New York Post reported.
The Administration for Children’s Services launched an investigation into Weiner and his conduct with his 4-year-old son Jordan, according to a government source.
A worker at the New York City apartment building where Weiner lived with now-estranged wife Huma Abedin confirmed that ACS paid a visit on Tuesday. This is within the agency’s 48 hour window to pay a home visit after a child is reported at risk.
Weiner said early Wednesday that ACS had not interviewed or visited him. Although the Post confirmed the investigation had been launched later that day, he did not return a request for comment. The Post had attempted to speak with the disgraced Democrat as he left his building alone around 6 a.m. Tuesday.
Confirmation of the investigation was “good news” for State Sen. Ruben Diaz Sr.
“Praise the Lord. Every child should be protected,” said the Bronx Democrat, who on Monday publicly demanded an ACS investigation of Weiner, the Post reported.
“The baby is being used for sex. Who uses a baby to get girls? That baby is being abused,” Diaz said.
Weiner had described his child as a “chick magnet” in previous texts, The Post had also reported.
Referring to previous stories by the New York Post, Catholic League President Bill Donohue filed a report of suspected child abuse with the state Office of Children and Family Services.
“It would appear that Mr. Weiner’s sexual exploitation of his child meets the definition of child sexual abuse . . . Please investigate this matter,” Donahue’s complaint, which listed Weiner and Abedin, said, according to the Post.
Divorce lawyer Raoul Felder, who represented former Mayor Rudi Giuliani in his divorce, questioned Abedin’s role as a mother in the incident. A longtime aide to Hillary Clinton, Abedin announced Monday that she was separating from Weiner whom she married in 2010.
“She goes away and leaves the child with this degenerate?” Felder asked. “Who enabled him to do this? She’s an enabler just like Mrs. Clinton was an enabler.”
Family law expert Michael Stuntman concurred that Weiner qualified for a child welfare probe because of “the child’s involvement in what appears to be very perverted behavior.”
“Inappropriate sexual acting out in a presence of a young child is an endangerment of that child,” Stutman said, according to the Post.
The Abedin and Weiner divorce and ensuing custody battle will not be pretty, experts told the Post.
“The table is now set for a type of custody case that could go on longer than these two have been married and in an environment that is as ugly as any one’s imagination can bring to bear,” Manhattan divorce attorney Bernard Clair said.
“If Woody Allen wrote this into a movie nobody would believe him,” Felder commented.
