Another incident involving deaths of Americans at the hands of an undocumented immigrant gives Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and his no-nonsense stance on illegal immigration more validation.
The incident occurred early Sunday, and involved an unlicensed bus driver who crashed through a police barricade on a Louisiana Interstate, injuring more than 40 people and killing two – including St. John Fire District Chief Spencer Chauvin.

Trooper Melissa Matey, a spokeswoman for the Louisiana State Police, confirmed to reporters that the driver of the bus, Denis Yasmir Amaya Rodriguez, 37, is a Honduras national who entered the United States illegally.
A fire department ladder truck was used as a make-shift barricade to block a westbound traffic lane on I-10 after an out-of-control pick-up truck crashed against a guard rail.
Rodriguez, driving the bus, came upon the scene and lost control, crashing into the fire truck and swerving into the right lane and striking three firefighters, including Chauvin.
“All three firemen were thrown over the side of the guard rail, into the water below,” Matey told reporters.
The fire fighters were taken to a hospital, where Chauvin was pronounced dead.
The identity of other fatality was not released by authorities, but was a passenger of another vehicle Rodriguez plowed into at the scene.
The Times-Picayune reported that 30 to 42 passengers inside the bus Rodriguez was driving also received injuries and were treated at local hospitals.
Although the bus was transporting its passengers to the Baton Rouge area to work at flooded businesses and residences, they were not volunteers, according to Matey.
St. John the Baptist Parish President Natalie Robottom posted a statement on Facebook praising Chauvin, and calling the incident “heartbreaking.”
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, as well as to the families of the other two firefighters involved in the accident,” the statement said. “This was a horrific accident and one that is still very active. This type of loss will affect the entire department, and they will have our full support as they deal with the grief of losing a comrade. It is heartbreaking, especially after this same group of individuals helped to guide St. John the Baptist Parish safely through Hurricane Isaac, the February tornado and the flood event last week. Please pray for all involved and please pray for our community.”
