Koch network cancels pro-Rubio ads in Florida

The Koch donor network announced plans to cancel advertising in Florida on behalf of Sen. Marco Rubio amid favorable polling numbers.

The ads will stop airing Aug. 3o, and the group plans to revisit its decision in September.

“Rubio is running strong in Florida, so we are realigning our television spend to other areas for this week,” Koch network spokesman James Davis told The Hill. “We will continue to monitor things and make adjustments as necessary.”

Rubio is well-funded in the race. As of the most recent financial disclosures, the Senate campaign has raised almost $11 million, leaving just over $2 million in cash on hand by the end of July.

A local Fox 13 affiliate poll revealed that Democratic challenger Patrick Murphy narrowed his deficit behind Rubio to only two points in the first week of August. Recent polling from NBC and Monmouth University show Murphy has maintained his all-time high of 43 percent, but Rubio’s lead has increased to as high as 49 percent.

The Koch network isn’t the first group to pull ads based on favorable polling numbers. Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton pulled ads in Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Colorado shortly after polling in all three states gave the Democratic nominee close to double-digit leads over Republican nominee Donald Trump.
