For U.S. House of Representatives Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, her focus on the Zika virus threat is all about her love of babies.
“The Zika in the southern part of our country is in our country, and because it hasn’t hit home in a district, doesn’t mean that it isn’t hitting home for the American people,” Pelosi said Thursday at a Capitol Hill press conference.
“You know how I am about babies and this is about babies. I just can’t understand it,” the California Democrat said.
Ironically, in 2014 Pelosi was the proud recipient of Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s annual Margaret Sanger Award. Sanger, reportedly an outspoken eugenicist, founded Planned Parenthood in 1921 originally as the American Birth Control League.
Pelosi, a Catholic, was presented with the award for “her leadership, excellence, and outstanding contributions to the reproductive health and rights movement over the course of her career.”
