Donald Trump hit back at his Democratic rival in a big way with a rousing speech on the economy, delivered at a venue that’s often held out as an example of the economic failure of Democratic policies — Detroit, Michigan.

“The city of Detroit is the living, breathing example of my opponent’s failed economic agenda,” Trump said at the Detroit Economic Club Monday.

“Detroit tops the list of most dangerous cities in terms of violent crime,” he continued. “These are the silenced victims whose stories are never told by Hillary Clinton, but victims whose suffering is no less real or permanent.”

The crowd often interrupted Trump during his address, but the Republican presidential nominee managed to stay focused and on message as he took aim at his Democratic rival.

“The one common feature of every Hillary Clinton idea is that it punishes you for working and doing business in the United States. Every policy she has tilts the playing field towards other countries at our expense,” Trump said.

In contrast to Clinton’s (and President Obama’s) “job-killing, tax-raising, poverty-inducing” agenda, he laid out his own economic plan.

“I want to jump-start America, and it won’t even be that hard, ” Trump told the cheering crowd.

“We now begin a great national conversation about economic renewal for America,” Trump said. “It’s a conversation about how to make America great again for everyone … especially for those who have the very least.”

His plan included slashing corporate and individual tax rates and calling for a moratorium on regulations to stimulate job creation and economic growth.

And his speech was praised by fellow republicans, beginning with former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.
