Giuliani told Fox News Channel’s “Fox & Friends” at a Thursday broadcast at the convention in Philadelphia that uniformed law enforcement officers weren’t allowed to appear inside the convention hall, according to reports he’d received from police officers.
Lezley McSpadden, the mother of slain Ferguson teen Michael Brown, appeared at the convention Tuesday along with another so-called “Mothers of the Movement” member, Sybrina Fulton, the mother of Trayvon Martin, who was shot to death by neighborhood watch coordinator George Zimmerman.
Zimmerman was subsequently found not guilty by a Florida jury. In the Brown case, a St. Louis grand jury found no cause to hold Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson liable for the shooting death, a finding confirmed by a lengthy Department of Justice investigation.
Given Wilson’s lack of legal culpability, McSpadden’s DNC appearance also drew the ire of St. Louis police officers.
“We were hoping that Hillary Clinton could be as good for law enforcement as Bill Clinton, but we’ve now seen that’s not the case,” said Jeff Roorda, business manager for the St. Louis Police Officers’ Association and St. Louis County Police Association, according to St. Louis Today. “This is such a big wedge issue and the Democratic Party is on the wrong side of that issue.”
