Gun owners aren't happy about the NRA's comments on Philando Castile's death

NRA members took to Twitter and Facebook to express their displeasure over the NRA’s comments concerning the death of Philando Castile.

Most members believe that the NRA did not do enough to defend gun rights when commenting on Castile’s death, a man who had a permit to carry and was subsequently shot by a police officer, reports The Washington Post.

“The reports from Minnesota are troubling and must be thoroughly investigated. In the meantime, it is important for the NRA not to comment while the investigation is ongoing. Rest assured, the NRA will have more to say once all the facts are known,” reads the statement posted July 8 on the NRA’s Facebook page. The statement came two days after Castile’s shooting.

The NRA released a statement concerning the Dallas officers hours after the Thursday shootings, paying respect to the “heroic Dallas law enforcement officers” and “those who so bravely ran towards danger.”

Many NRA members took to social media to express their displeasure.

“Philando Castile had a valid concealed weapons permit but was shot and killed. As an NRA member I urge you to take a strong position in favor of this man. The NRA should be heavily recruiting and offering CWP safety to all Americans. Perhaps extra effort in recruitment of minorities,” wrote Dennis Gesker on Facebook, according to the The Washington Post.

“I cannot believe the NRA has not come out in support for Philando Castile,” wrote Lason Pagel.”I am a lifetime NRA member but am disgusted at the lack of support you are showing these two. Philandro had no criminal record and held a CHL which should speak volumes of his character.”

People around the country also pointed out the NRA’s lack of comment on Twitter.
