‘Mission Accomplished’: 4th of July poll shows Obama’s changed how Americans feel about country

As Fourth of July celebrations are planned across the nation, a new poll shows that fewer Americans are feeling proud of their country.

According to a Fox News poll released Wednesday, national pride is at 50 percent, down 19 points since 2011. The number of voters who indicated they are not proud of America is 46 percent, up from 28 percent.

Only 19 percent believe the nation’s Founding Fathers would be proud of the country they helped create, a drop from 26 percent in 2011. And 75 percent said the Founders would not be proud at all.

According to Fox:

“The decline in pride of country is identical among men and women (-19 points). The downward shift is larger among Republicans (-26 points) than independents (-17 points) and Democrats (-14 points).

Today, half of men (51 percent) and women (49 percent) are proud, as are 59 percent of Democrats, 49 percent of independents and 41 percent of Republicans.”

As for how patriotic the presidential candidates are, 60 percent of voters think Democrat Hillary Clinton is patriotic and 63 percent believe the same for Republican Donald Trump. Independent voters viewed Trump as more patriotic than Clinton, 69-49 percent.

Among Clinton supporters, 62 percent of voters are proud of the country, while just 39 percent of those supporting Trump feel that way, according to Fox.

Eight years of President Obama in the White House has apparently accomplished much in the way Americans feel about the country.
