Former Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer blasted President Obama’s “offensive” attacks on Donald Trump Sunday, and considered them unbecoming of a president.
CNN’s Jake Tapper played a short segment of Obama referring to the presumptive Republican presidential nominee a “charlatan” and a “flim-flam man” before introducing
the “State of the Union” panel.
Although Brewer, a Trump supporter, didn’t believe it would hurt the candidate, she took the president to task for calling of Republicans “bigots and racists.”
“[Obama] does say rightly that Donald Trump is a bigot, Donald Trump is a racist, Donald Trump, in fact, is making fascist appeals,” former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley said. “That’s why many self-respecting Republican are not supporting Donald Trump for president of the United States.”
“Every time you disagree with [Republicans], no matter what subject it is, you’re a bigot or you’re a racist!” Brewer shot back.
“No, that’s not true!” O’Malley interjected as Brewer continued, and the segment soon degenerated into cross-talk.
Tapper separated the two and brought in former Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, who agreed with Brewer.
“You have a president who cannot defend his policies and their outcome,” he said. “So he jumps immediately to the race card — racist card in particular. It’s a common tactic for Democrats.”
He added that the media “plays along with it” and “gives it legitimacy.”
Brewer admitted that Trump has said somethings during his campaign that made her uncomfortable, but attributed them to his being a political neophyte.
O’Malley got in the last shot.
“I can’t believe you’re supporting Donald Trump,” he told Brewer.
