Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton achieved a double-digit lead in a Washington Post poll published Sunday.
In the poll, which surveyed 1,001 likely voters nationwide, Clinton barely crossed the 50 percent mark for the first time in her candidacy, with 51 percent of respondents saying they would support her if the election were held today. Thirty-nine percent of likely voters support presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump.
Trump’s numbers with Democrats fell from 20 percent last month to 8 percent. Trump resumed his call for Democrats to vote for him after last month’s poll revealed over 20 percent of Sanders supporters would vote for Trump.
Trump’s support among Republicans remained relatively low at 69 percent.
Fifty-one percent of likely voters said Trump stood “against their beliefs.” When that group was constricted to just Republicans, 30 percent maintained that Trump stood against their beliefs.
Despite scandals regarding her service, 61 percent of likely voters stated that Clinton was “qualified to serve as president.”`
Trump took white voters by a slim majority, although his support fell from last month’s numbers. Clinton did very well with minorities and women. Clinton did best with was the 18-39 age group.
The survey polled likely voters with landline and cellphone calls from June 20 to June 23. The poll didn’t include third-party candidates in their questions.
