In the wake of demands for stricter gun control legislation by the left, federal authorities say robberies of gun stores have increased nationwide.
Two Colorado gun stores were burglarized this past week, adding to the growing number of break-ins reported in gun stores across the country, according to KCNC-TV.
Littleton Colorado Gun Brokers had 30 guns stolen in a break-in on Tuesday morning. Triple J Armory reported between 20 and 30 guns stolen the next day.
“We’re looking into a possible connection, however it’s way too soon to tell if they are connected,” said Lisa Meiman, a spokesperson for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Meiman told KCNC that these firearms usually end up on the black market.
“They may be trafficked overseas and sold that way, a lot of time they’re used for bartering so you may have the suspect sell it for drugs or some other sort of currency,” Meiman said. “They almost always end up in crimes.”
Amid the calls for more legislation on firearms, the number of licensed gun stores being targeted has increased, in what federal investigators are calling a national trend.
“We saw 56 firearms stolen from licensed gun dealers in 2014, 121 in 2015, and now we’re at about 119, 120 or so in 2016. And we’re only half way through the year,” Meiman said.
