House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi echoed President Obama’s 2012 claim that “You didn’t build that” Thursday with her statement that the federal government built the iPhone — not technology giant Apple Computer or its late founder Steve Jobs.

“Anybody here have a smartphone?” the California Democrat asked the attendees of a Democratic National Convention Platform hearing in Washington, D.C.

Displaying her own iPhone to the audience, she claimed that “In this smartphone, almost everything came from federal investments in research.”

She then itemized technological achievements that went into making the iPhone possible, to which the government contributed in one way or another.

“The list goes on and on. If you want to learn more, look at the Association for the Advancement of Science in America, and they have the full list,” Pelosi said. “They say Steve Jobs did a good idea designing it and putting it together. Federal research invented it.”

While running for re-election, Obama made the claim on July 13, 2012 that, “If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen!”

American Crossroads had a field day with that one, and put together a one-minute video titled “Build” in which they show the clip of Obama making that remark to various small business owners.
