When Colorado governor John Hickenlooper was interviewed last week by a local TV outlet, it sounded as though he was all in on the rumor of becoming Hillary Clinton’s running mate, and seemed eager to discuss his future.

However, when interviewed by CNN’s Jake Tapper, the host of “The Lead” was more interested in the Colorado governor’s checkered past.
The question, “Why is John Hickenlooper, a guy who admits to getting high, taking naked pictures and being arrested for drunk driving potentially on Hillary Clinton’s VP list?” was asked in the interview’s introduction.
And, as it turns out, those particular skeletons roaming around in the governor’s closet weren’t very difficult to ferret out — he admitted to them all in his autobiography, “The Opposite of Woe,” which was published this year.
“I should be authentic,” he told Tapper. “I should be flat out warts and all, tell the truth to reveal not just the good stuff that I’m proud of, but the stuff I’m sorry that I did.”
Tapper remarked that Hickenlooper wasn’t kidding about the “warts and all” comment.
“There’s a drunk driving arrest, smoking marijuana, a nude self-portrait,” he said.
On the surface one could view Hickenlooper as Clinton’s perfect running mate given his past.
But there’s one huge difference — the governor is sorry for the mistakes he made many years ago; the former secretary of state is still making them and won’t even own up to them — let alone feel sorry.
