The video was posted to mark the Islamic holy month of Ramadan and, according to Twitchy, journalist Ezra Levant reported that it featured Mike Hankey, Consul General at the U.S. Consulate in Dhahran.
I swear to God this really is the U.S. consul general in Saudi Arabia: https://t.co/WJ4jq6hrOc #Submission https://t.co/uiyDM81V8p

Oddly, Hankey’s information page indicate he is married with two sons, but his wife did not appear in the video.
@USEmbassyRiyadh where is his wife?? @zaidbenjamin

After Hillary Clinton’s Ramadan message had some social media users wondering if she had converted to Islam, reaction to the Embassy’s video was not all welcoming.

@ezralevant @GayPatriot @USEmbassyRiyadh Tons of second hand embarrassment.
— Violentvernacular (@WhiterZombie) June 6, 2016
@ezralevant @GayPatriot Why is it that our govt, from POTUS on down, insist on behaving like high school foreign exchange students?
— MTiller (@LadaMokusa) June 6, 2016
Though there were certainly many who were grateful for the gesture.
