This is probably not the kind of endorsement Bernie Sanders was looking for.
“Bernie Sanders, our revolutionary friend, ought to win in the United States,” said Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro in a televised broadcast Tuesday, according to a Reuters report.

The socialist president has been highly critical of the U.S. which he blames for Venezuela’s economic crisis. But he is apparently a fan of the socialist senator from Vermont.
“If the elections were free … Bernie Sanders would be president of the United States,” he said, as he criticized the American election system.
Maduro took office in 2013, following Hugo Chavez whom Sanders called a “dead communist dictator” in an email to supporters in September, according to Reuters. Relations have been strained between the U.S. and Venezuela since Chavez came into power in 1999. The country is currently suffering a brutal economic crisis.
With the California primary looming and front-runner Hillary Clinton looking to clinch the party nomination, Sanders would probably have been happier without this support.
