A North Carolina school district is considering making a fashion statement, literally.
Claiming that bigger students wearing tight-fitting clothes have been bullied at schools, the Wilmington school board is thinking about banning skinny jeans, Fox News reported Wednesday.
“No leggings, ‘skinny jeans,’ or other excessively tight-fitting pants unless covered by a top or dress to the appropriate length,” the proposed dress code reads. “The length of the top or dress will cover the posterior area in its entirety.”
The policy also would suspend any students who do not follow the guidelines.
The school board has not yet voted on the proposal which is not supported by all parents and students, according to Fox.
Parents raised the logical question of why school officials were more intent on body-shaming some students and not on punishing the bullies.
