An upcoming Beyoncé concert in Pittsburgh could result in an unfair labor charge against the city by police who refuse to work security at the event.
Officers believe the artist’s latest album, “Lemonade,” is anti-police and they are upset about being forced to provide security at her May 31 concert at Heinz Field, Fox News reported.
“There are police officers that have expressed that they do not want to support an artist that they don’t like what she has to say,” president Robert Swartzwelder of the Fraternal Order of the Police Lodge No. 1 said, according to Fox. “It’s up to them what they want to do with their off-duty time.”
As the venue is a privately owned space, off-duty police are provided for a fee and working the event is strictly voluntary for the officers. If there are not enough volunteers, Swartzwelder said, forcing the officers to work would be a violation of the city’s contract with the police department.
The video for “Formation,” Beyoncé’s single, has scenes of the singer on a police car submerged under water, an African-American boy and police in riot gear, and a wall with “Stop Shooting Us” written on it, Fox reported.
