The economy will be a key issue in this year’s presidential election, and more American voters trust Donald Trump in this area, according to a new poll.
Four out of ten voters said the economy will decide their vote for president in a Fox News national poll released Thursday on the election’s top issues. Trump beat Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton on the top issue of the economy, 53-41 percent and terrorism at 52-40 percent.
Voters favored Trump on several issues where he scored higher than Clinton, including “telling the truth to the American people” (48-33 percent), managing tax dollars (52-38 percent), and restoring trust in government (46-38 percent), according to Fox News.
Clinton beat out Trump in several areas, including social issues (+12 points), education (+10), foreign policy (+10), health care (+3).
Interestingly, though voters thought Trump “truly will” build the wall along the U.S.-Mexico border (54-42 percent), and believe he will forcibly deport illegal immigrants (50-44 percent), it’s Clinton who wins voters’ trust in handling nuclear weapons (49-38 percent).
Slightly more voters also trusted Clinton in the area of immigration, (47 to 45 perecnt) and she was picked with a 35-point margin on “representing the views of Latinos,” Fox reported.
