He cried like a little baby.
An Alabama pre-teen, home alone, shot an alleged intruder in the leg to prevent an apparent burglary of the family home.
Chris Gaither, 11, of Talladega, Alabama, was alone Wednesday morning when he heard someone break in and walk upstairs.
Although understandably afraid, the boy grabbed a 9-mm handgun, according to local NBC affiliate WVTM 13 News.
“When he was coming down the stairs, that’s when he told me he was going to kill me, f-you and all that,” Gaither told the station.
The intruder made it out the door with a hamper, Gaither began firing shots at the man, hitting him in the leg with the 12th and final round.
“I shot through the hamper he was carrying,” the boy said. “It was a full metal jacket bullet. It went straight through the back of his leg. He started crying like a little baby.”
WVTM reported:
Talladega Police are still investigating and have not released the name of the suspect, but the Gaither’s mother said this man has robbed their house before. They don’t know him personally.
A sign hanging on Gaither’s fence outside the house reads, “Basset on guard.” It turns out, there’s more than a dog protecting the house on Creekside Circle.
“I hope you learn your lesson coming to this house trying to steal stuff,” Gaither said.
