One man learned the hard way just how divisive the 2016 presidential season is becoming.

He got his tires slashed for having a Donald Trump bumper sticker on his car.

After Gig Harbor, Washington resident Nate Eliot parked his vehicle in front of a downtown business, he noticed someone pouring yogurt through his sunroof and slash his spare tire.

He thought right away that it was because of the bumper sticker.

“I had a hunch because what else could it have been,” he told local NBC affiliate KING 5 News.

Eliot was able to get the vandal’s license number, which led to the arrest of Riley Siva. He confirmed that he’d vandalized Eliot’s car, but said it was an act of community service, as he considered the Trump sticker a “hate” symbol

“I do not expect the law to recognize damage to tools of hate or racism,” he said to police in a written statement. “Such things need to be destroyed.”

Meanwhile Eliot considers Siva’s action a hate crime.

“I felt discriminated against,” Eliot told the station “I felt he was basically carrying out a hate crime.”

Eliot tweeted pictures where he accused Siva of being a Bernie Sanders supporter.
