A local news station obtained graphic video of a Nashville police officer being attacked by a crowd of people as the officer attempted to arrest a man.
Late Tuesday, Metropolitan Nashville Police Officer Matthew Cammarn noticed suspect Brian Shannon, 22, assaulting a woman at a housing complex.
When Cammarn told Shannon to place his hands behind his back to take him into custody, the suspect “aggressively walked up to the officer” and grabbed him, pulling him to the ground, the police report said, according to local ABC affiliate WKRN 2 News.

While the two were fighting on the ground, people in the crowd began shoving, kicking and pulling the officer in an effort to free Shannon.
Shannon was eventually able to break free from Cammarn and fled the scene, with the officer in hot pursuit, catching up to him a block away, where he was arrested and placed into custody.
Shannon was booked by Nashville-Metro Police on a string of charges, including felony aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, evading arrest, criminal trespassing, disorderly conduct and drug possession.
A 17-year-old, whose name is being withheld, was arrested and is being held in juvenile detention on charges of charged with aggravated assault on the officer and evading arrest.
Cammarn, who was 2012 Metro-Nashville Officer of the Year, was treated for a head injury a local hospital and is expected to fully recover.
