Scarborough: Ted Cruz is the worst-case scenario for Senate candidates, worse than Trump

Joe Scarborough asserted that Texas Sen. Ted Cruz would be worse for Republican Senate candidates if he won the GOP presidential nomination, even worse than Donald Trump.

Republicans have tough re-election battles in several states this election cycle, including in New Hampshire, Illinois, Ohio and Wisconsin.

Scarborough, speaking with columnist and MSNBC contributor Mike Barnicle on Morning Joe Thursday, noted after Obama’s election in 2008, there was not a GOP presence in either House in Congress.

“That’s why people say, ‘You know what? Donald Trump would be the worst thing that ever happened to, let’s say, [New Hampshire Sen.] Kelly Ayotte,” Scarborough said. “No, no, no. Ted Cruz would be the worst thing that ever happened to Kelly Ayotte in a general election because there’s a reason why in 2008 there was not a single Republican representing anybody in all of New England in Congress.’”

Barnicle agreed. “But Ted Cruz means Kelly Ayotte is a former United States Senator,” he said.

“Exactly,” Scarborough replied. “Ted Cruz means bad news there, bad news in Ohio for Portman, bad news in Wisconsin. Ted Cruz at the top of the ticket means that Ron Johnson in Wisconsin is looking for new job.”

“And Chuck Schumer’s majority leader,” Barnicle said.

“Chuck Schumer’s majority leader,”Scarborough said. “I can’t say this enough. It’s just a reality. You probably agree, or maybe you don’t. Ted Cruz is the worst-case scenario for Senate candidates, even worse than Donald Trump.”

The senior Senator from New York is set to be the top Democrat after Harry Reid retires at the end of his term early next year.

Trump currently leads the active GOP presidential field with 743 delegates, while Cruz has 545. Ohio Gov. John Kasich has 143 delegates.
