Trump when pressed on racial issues: Not only about economy, Americans are losing their spirit

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump revealed his strategy for winning over Americans who are worried about issues when it comes to race.

With a focus on jobs and the economy, Trump discussed the issue on Fox News’ “The O’Reilly Factor” on Monday. The GOP front-runner disagreed with host Bill O’Reilly’s comment that the candidate is not popular with African-Americans.

“That’s the perception in the African-American precincts, that you’re a racial guy, you don’t like them,” O’Reilly said. “Is there a strategy that you have or your staff has to negate that?”

Trump noted that his message to these communities was an economic one.

“My message is I’m going to bring jobs back,” he said. “Right now, we don’t have jobs. China has the jobs. Mexico has the jobs. Japan has the jobs. Everybody has the jobs.”

“The jobs have been taken out of the United States like we’re a bunch of babies,” Trump said, but O’Reilly pushed back on how he planned to bring jobs to those who are not educationally qualified.

“If the kid isn’t qualified to do the job and can’t do the work, I mean, you gotta get in the infrastructure of the African-American community,” O’Reilly challenged.

“Well, it is true, and it’s about education, but it’s also about spirit,” the GOP front-runner responded. “A lot of people don’t have spirit. Not only African-Americans. They don’t have spirit in our country.”
