Apparently, the fragile college snowflake epidemic is not just confined to the Unites States.

A University of Edinburgh student was faced with being evicted from a meeting because she reportedly violated the school’s safe space rules when she dared to raise her arm.

During a student council meeting, Imogen Wilson, the vice-president for academic affairs at Edinburgh University Students’ Association, received a “safe space complaint” when she allegedly used “inappropriate hand gestures,” reported The Telegraph.

A safe space environment is “a space which is welcoming and safe and includes the prohibition of discriminatory language and actions,” according to the association’s rules. This includes “refraining from hand gestures which denote disagreement,” or “in any other way indicating disagreement with a point or points being made,” reported the Telegraph.

Wilson, 22, broke these rules when she raised her arm in disagreement after another speaker accused her of failing to respond to a letter.

“I totally do believe in safe space and the principles behind it,” she told the Telegraph, but added that “it can’t become a tool for the hard left to use when they disagree with people.”

“At that meeting we were discussing BDS, the movement to boycott Israel,” Wilson said. “I made a long and passionate speech against us subscribing to this on the basis it encourages anti-Semitism on campus. It was only after I made that speech that someone made a safe space complaint. I can’t help but think it was a political move against me.”

Political move indeed.

Amazingly, Wilson faced a second complaint in the same meeting.

“Later on in the meeting, someone threatened me with a second complaint because I was shaking my head,” she said. “But when I was addressing the room about my worries about Jewish students, there were plenty of people shaking their heads and nothing happened.”

The school eventually did pass the policy supporting BDS, the anti-Israel Boycott, Disinvestment, and Sanctions movement.

Another university student started a petition to get the student union to “reinstate and defend free speech,” calling it “pathetic” that hand movements were being policed. “We are adults, we do not need condescension or safeguarding,” the petition stated.

Wilson received international support and feedback on social media.
