As far as mistakes go, this one seems pretty big.

A school bus packed with explosives to train “bomb-sniffing dogs” was handed back to the county to be used for transporting children.

Sarah Fisher of Truth Revolt reports:

CIA mistakenly left explosives on a Virginia school bus that was used to train bomb-sniffing dogs. The bus was used to transport children before the explosives were discovered, according to officials.

“The inactive explosives were discovered in the engine compartment when the Loudoun County Public Schools bus was undergoing maintenance,” the Central Intelligence Agency said in a statement on Thursday.

A CIA canine team left the inert explosives behind after a detection exercise held at a high school during spring break, it said.

The school district said the explosives were on the bus for Monday and Tuesday when it transported elementary school and high school students.

“The CIA assured Loudoun officials the training material used in this exercise is stable and posed no danger to students on board the bus,” it said in a statement.

The school district said the explosives were inside a container located in the engine compartment and apparently just “fell out.”

The CIA said the material has been recovered and it was taking steps to tighten up security procedures.
