The three remaining Republican presidential candidates have backed off the pledge they made last fall to support the party’s nominee.

During a town hall in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Sen. Ted Cruz said he would have a hard time supporting Donald Trump in light of recent attacks the GOP front-runner has launched against the Texas senator’s wife Heidi.

“I’m not in the habit of supporting someone who attacked my wife and attacked my family. I think that is going beyond the line,” he told host Anderson Cooper, who was moderating the CNN event which aired on Tuesday. “I’m not an easy person to tick off, but when you go after my wife, when you go after my daughters, that does it.”

And while Cruz skirted the question by never stating he would not support Trump as a nominee, Trump and Ohio Gov. John Kasich openly renounced the pledges they made in September to the Republican National Committee to support the winning candidate.

Responding to Cruz’s earlier comments, Trump said the Texas senator looked “tormented” trying to answer Cooper’s question of pledging support.

“I don’t want his support. I don’t need his support. I want him to be comfortable,” Trump said.

Kasich regretted even making the pledge, which was initiated as a way to prevent an independent run by Donald Trump.

“Probably shouldn’t have even answered that question, but it was the first debate, and what the heck,” said Kasich. “If the nominee is somebody that I think is really hurting the country and dividing the country, I can’t stand behind them.”
