Facebook has activated their “Safety Check” feature in response to Tuesday’s terrorist bombings in Brussels, Belgium.
Today, we are used to being constantly connected to the world through cell phones and social media but quite often that connection is the first thing lost in the wake of emergencies. Cell phone networks get overburdened and uncertainty about the status of loved ones adds to the chaos.
With “Safety Check,” Facebook users in the affected area can check in as “safe” to notify friends and family that they are OK even if other forms of communication are overburdened or disabled.
