Pastor gunned down one day after leading Ted Cruz campaign rally in prayer

One day after leading a Ted Cruz campaign rally in prayer, an Idaho minister was shot multiple times and wounded outside his church Sunday.

Police were called to the Altar Church in Coeur D’Alene just prior to 2:00 p.m. where they found Pastor Tim Remington who was shot four times in the back while he was headed to his car, according to local CBS affiliate KREM 23 News.

“Our prayers are with Pastor Tim, his family, and the doctors who are supervising his care,” Cruz campaign spokeswoman Catherine Frazier told NBC News. “We pray for his full recovery and are thankful for the efforts of law enforcement to ensure the attacker is swiftly brought to justice.”

The shooter has been identified as Kyle Odom, 30, who had attended services at the church, then waited for Remington in a car before opening fire.

KREM reported:

Church members tell KREM 2 News that Pastor Remington is expected to make a full recovery. He could be released from the hospital within the next two days.

Police said Odom fled the scene before they got there and has not been located. Odom is believed to be armed and dangerous. He was last seen leaving the parking lot in a 2004 silver Honda Accord with Idaho plate K578519. Odom is described as having blonde hair and blue eyes, about six feet tall and approximately 170 pounds. If you have any information relating to Odom’s whereabouts, please call 911.

Remington has been the head of the Altar Church for more than a decade. Multiple church members gather around the scene to pray for not only Remington, but the shooter too.

“We just want to be here for everyone in our congregation. Be here for our pastor. We are going to go to the hospital and wait for the word to make sure he is okay,” a church member told the station. “He opens his home to people. He takes them in and lets them live in his home. All the people society has turned their backs on, he reaches out to them.”

Remington is expected to make a full recovery.
