Speaking at a conference Friday, far-left actor/activist Sean Penn claimed to have a yearning for former President George W. Bush given the ongoing squabbling at the Republican presidential debates.
He claimed that “the defecation on America that is the Republican debate” makes him nostalgic for the 43rd president, which Penn said was something he “finds amazing.”
The issue came up on the last day of the annual RSA computer security conference in San Francisco when he was asked who he was backing in the presidential race, according to USA Today, which reported:
Penn grimaced, then said maybe he’s simply not being democratic enough in how he thinks about the election because he’s clearly not taking into account “the true interests of my fellow Americans.”
“So many of them truly want to hate each other, want to bottom out their community so they can rise up in it, want to really devastate the rest of the world and maybe get into a civil war,” he said.
He added that if that’s what Americans are looking for, “I’m going to have to consider Trump-Cruz,” he said.
But given Penn’s politics, Cruz-Bush isn’t his real candidate of choice — the person he’s backing should be obvious to anyone.
“I think Bernie Sanders is an exceptional American, and I’m going to vote for Hillary Clinton,” he said, referring to the self-described Democratic socialist Vermont senator.
“I think Bernie Sanders is an exceptional American, and I’m going to vote for Hillary Clinton,” he said.
Clinton? Really? Most would have had him pegged for the self-described Vermont Sen. Sanders.

And as for the Bush comment, Fordham Institute senior Fellow Robert Pondiscio hit the nail on the head when he came up with this reasoning:

She was of course referring to Penn’s interview with drug lord Joaquín Archivaldo Guzmán Loera, known as El Chapo.
