Cruz strikes desperate tone; calls on candidates, GOP to unite with him against Trump

Following wins in Texas and Oklahoma in Super Tuesday primaries, Ted Cruz called on the other Republican candidates to form a united front in backing him against Donald Trump in the days ahead.

“America shouldn’t have a president whose words would make you embarrassed if your children repeated them,” Cruz told supporters in Texas, in a clear jab at Trump whom he called “vulgar and profane.”

“So long as the field remains divided, Donald Trump’s path to the nomination remains more likely,” Cruz said. “And that would be a disaster for Republicans, for conservatives and for the nation.”

The Texas senator told the cheering crowd that his campaign was the only one that could beat rival Trump “resoundingly” and called on GOP candidates and voters to unite behind him to prevent a Trump nomination. “We welcome you on our team, standing united as one.”

“We could nominate a Washington deal-maker, profane and vulgar, who has a lifelong pattern of using government power for personal gain, or we can nominate a proven conservative who has fought consistently for working men and women and to defend the Constitution,” Cruz said.
