The real estate developer and GOP frontrunner didn’t take the accusation well.
The 2012 Republican presidential nominee told Fox News’ “Your World” host Neil Cavuto that he’s holding off supporting any one candidate until he sees “their positions on issues in some detail” … as well as their back taxes.
“Donald Trump and Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz have” yet to reveal their taxes from previous years.
“And this was an issue in my campaign,” he said.
“Frankly, we have good reason to believe that there is a bombshell in Donald Trump’s taxes,” Romney said.
When asked to explain further, Romney said it could be that Trump’s not as wealthy as he claims, that he’s not paying the amount of taxes others would expect, or that his donations to veterans groups were lacking in previous years.

Romney’s statements set off Trump; and he used what has become a common venue, Twitter, to vent his anger. He tweeted:
Mitt Romney, who totally blew an election that should have been won and whose tax returns made him look like a fool, is now playing tough guy

When Mitt Romney asked me for my endorsement last time around, he was so awkward and goofy that we all should have known he could not win!

“@conservativevin: @ahernandez85a Romney should have been a tough guy with Obama. He cowered and lost. BADLY! He’s not relevant!”

“@classyexplorer: @ahernandez85a Romney is a pawn of the Establishment and has no individual thought process. He is jealous of Trump!”

“@ChatteringTeef: @BornToBeGOP @realDonaldTrump @MittRomney hates to see Trump’s success when he was so pathetic
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 25, 2016
Friend and foe alike wondered why Trump didn’t simply release his back tax forms rather than go on the attack. A few examples:
@realDonaldTrump What’s the big deal? Just release your tax returns.
— Tina (@tinamjay) February 24, 2016
@realDonaldTrump then just release them! What’s to hide???
— Marci Chimie (@MarciaCM1) February 24, 2016
.@realDonaldTrump Then release them and make him look him a bigger fool! Unless you’re afraid!https://t.co/hgx9lSBCHP
